Our team of writers at Into the Deep are devoting this year’s blog to an overall theme of Hope as we align with the Church’s Jubilee Year. Our final series explores anchors of hope. What helps you hold onto hope in times of distress? What are the people, places, and spiritual practices that keep you steady? I’m excited to kickoff the series with this reflection on “Silence” as an anchor of hope in turbulent times.

I talk to a lot of people who have a hard time imaging spending an extended period of time in silence! It’s taken a lot of practice, but I’ve come to welcome the silence – including the distractions that are ever present. Silence is not an escape from the world. Silence is an invitation to experience God’s closeness, even in the midst of suffering and uncertainty. At the core of silence is a profound experience of God’s love. I hope you come to recognize that, too. Read the whole piece here.
